CONSULTANT

I work with organisations looking to better understand the opportunities and challenges they are facing in all aspects of people and organisational development, and particularly in relation to volunteer involvement.   I work with clients to analyse current context and plan for and deliver improvements in strategy, structure, culture and practice.

RESEARCHER

My research focuses on the experiences of people within organisations and communities. I have particular experience in researching volunteering, and the impact it makes on people, organisations and communities.

COACH

I typically work with CEOs, Directors and Heads, supporting individuals over a period of several months.   My coaching style is integrative, meaning I draw on a range of coaching models, theories and tools, and I adapt my approach to best meet the needs of the particular client I’m working with.  

 

ABOUT

I work across all aspects of people and organisational development, with particular experience in the UK charity sector.    I’m passionate about enabling and empowering people to be the best they can be, in the organisations and communities in which they choose to work or volunteer. 

The golden thread through my career has been seeking to understand people, organisations and communities in order to work with them more effectively, so that together we can make the world a better place.      

A significant part of my work revolves around the strategic development of volunteering, and I passionately believe that done well, volunteering changes lives, changes communities and changes organisations.

Previous experience

I’ve worked and volunteered in the voluntary sector for over 25 years and before working independently, held a number of Director level roles in people and organisational development in large UK charities.   I’ve led directorates and teams with responsibility for volunteering, people/HR, learning, development, equity, diversity and inclusion, and internal communications.  I’ve also led and managed several programmes of organisational change, including work on organisation design, organisational capability, system and process changes, and cultural change.   

Alongside my practical experience, I’ve continued to undertake studies that inform my work, enabling me to combine academic and practical experience.  I have a PhD based on understanding the nature, meaning, and impact of volunteering, an MSc in Coaching and Behavioural Change, and an MBA.  I also hold a Graduate Certificate in Organisational Development and qualifications in learning and development.   I’m a Chartered member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (MCIPD) and a Member of the Organisational Development Network for Europe (ODNE)  and the Association of Volunteer Managers (AVM).
